Data Privacy Notice

the University of St. Augustine’s (“University”) is committed to protecting the privacy of your personal information. To provide its website and services, the University must collect and process personal data about visitors. This Privacy Notice outlines the practices related to the collection and processing of personal information when users visit the University’s
websites. 

By continuing to use and interact with University websites and providing your personal information, you are accepting the terms of this Privacy Notice. Information Collected In general, University St. Augustine’s collects and processes two types of information through its websites: (1) information voluntarily provided by you to receive requested information services, and (2) information automatically collected upon your navigation to one of its websites.

 

Information You Provide

The University collects information that you provide, such as when you: request information; use a device to interact with a website; create an account; log in; register for courses, programs, or activities; complete a web form; add or update your account information; or otherwise interact or communicate with the University (including via its websites or other electronic means). The University then processes the information you provide.

Information Collected

When you use University websites, they automatically collect information about the devices you use to do so (e.g., computers, tablets, mobile phones, etc.). The University collects your device identifier, web browser, IP address, and browsing information via “cookies” and “web beacons.” The University also automatically collects information about how you use the websites, such as what you have searched for and viewed on the websites. The information automatically collected will be associated with any personal information you have provided.

Cookies

University websites use cookies –small text files placed on your device – to keep track of information about your browsing preferences. Your decision to set your web browser to accept or disable cookies is a personal choice. However, without cookies, you may not be able to take full advantage of the features and functionality of University websites, including those related to
your preferences.

The University of St. Augustine’s website uses web beacons to gather information from individuals who interact with it. These web beacons, which are typically small transparent images, collect data such as the requester’s IP address, as well as the date and time the website was accessed. Web beacons work together with cookies, so if cookies are disabled, the University cannot collect unique information about you.

  • The University processes personal data for a variety of reasons. These reasons include carrying out operations to manage the educational, research, and administrative needs of the University community. Additionally, the University aims to improve its websites and services, respond to requests and inquiries, and provide newsletters, articles, service or safety alerts/announcements, event invitations, and other information that may be of interest to users.
  • Furthermore, the University may request gifts and donations from patrons. It may also analyze users’ use of University websites and perform other market research activities such as interest-based advertising, targeted advertising, and online behavioral advertising. This analysis is conducted to determine content that would be of interest to users. The University complies with and meets legal obligations, enforces agreements, and protects the health, safety, rights, and property of the University and its community. The University may also prevent, investigate, and take actions regarding unlawful or criminal activity (including fraud or other misconduct), security or technical concerns, or unauthorized access to or use of the University’s data, users’ personal information, and University data systems.
  • Therefore, users can be assured that their data is processed in a manner that adheres to legal obligations and ethical considerations. The University will process your data consistent with the consent you have provided for a stated purpose, or as necessary to:
  1. (i) advance the University’s legitimate interests
  2. (ii) perform a contract with you (or for your benefit), or fulfill a request you have made
  3. (iii) comply with a legal obligation, and/or
  4. (iv) to protect the vital interest of you or another person. The University may share your data with third-party service providers to support its activities and
    provide services such as online course support for students, benefit services for faculty and staff, or study abroad and international educational or teaching opportunities.
  5. The University does not sell or rent this data, and its third-party service providers are not authorized to disclose personal data except as necessary to perform services on the University’s behalf or to comply with legal requirements.
    In certain instances, the University may share your data to provide the requested information and/or services or as required by law. However, the information shared will be limited to the extent necessary to provide the required information and/or services or as required by law.

Third-Party Websites and Content

University websites may include links to other websites for your convenience. Please note that these external websites are typically independent of the University’s websites. Thus, if you choose to use these links, you will be redirected to another website that is not operated by the University. The University does not endorse or make any representation about these external websites, and the University is not responsible for their content or
privacy practices. If you decide to access any third-party website, it is recommended that you review the privacy policies and terms of use of that website, as the University’s policies will no longer be applicable. It is important to carefully review the applicable terms and
policies, including privacy and information-gathering practices, of these third-party sites.

Your Accounts

Although the University has security measures in place to protect the personal data you provide to it, you are encouraged to take steps on your own to protect your information by, for example, not leaving your web browser open and unsupervised, and using strong passwords and multi-factor authentication wherever possible. You should know that any information you post or disclose in social media, forums, message boards, and similar contexts may become public. You should always exercise caution before disclosing any personal data or other information in such
contexts.

Retention of Information and Security

Personal data you provide to the University will be retained following the University’srecord retention schedule, and applicable laws, or until such time the service requested is no longer available. The University maintains administrative, technical, and physical
safeguards to protect against loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction of the information you provide when visiting or using University websites. The University implements appropriate security measures to promote the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of any information in the possession (or control) of the University. The University utilizes Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption technology for instances where University St. Augustine’s websites process your personal information. The purpose of TLS is to protect your information from being viewed by an unauthorized person. Additionally, some features on University St. Augustine’s websites may enable credit card transactions for you to purchase goods and services. University St. Augustine’s subcontracts the processing of online transactions to third-party service providers that comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).

If you are a resident of the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or the People’s Republic of China (excluding the Hong Kong Special Autonomous Region, Macao SAR, and Taiwan), you have certain rights with regards to your personal information. These rights include the right to access, review, modify, correct, or request the erasure of your personal information. You can also ask for a copy of
your information and request the University to restrict or stop processing your information. Furthermore, you have the right to object to communications, direct marketing, or automated processing of your personal information. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK Data Protection Act of 2018, and the PRC’s Personal Information Protection Law provide further information about your rights. You also have the right to lodge complaints with your national or regional data protection authority.

To protect your personal information, we may request further information to verify your identity when you exercise these rights. If you request the erasure of your information, we will maintain a core set of personal information to ensure we do not contact you inadvertently in the future, as well as any information necessary for archival or other legal purposes. We may also retain financial information for legal purposes, including United States Internal Revenue Service compliance. Moreover, in the event of an actual or threatened legal claim, we may retain your information to establish, defend against, or exercise your rights regarding such a claim.

By providing your information directly to us, you consent to the transfer of your personal information outside your country of residence to the United States. Please note that the current laws and regulations of the United States may not provide the same level of protection as the data and privacy laws and regulations of your country of residence. The University values the privacy of children and minors on all of its websites as defined by the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. We do not knowingly collect or use any personally identifiable information from them. Updates to this Privacy Notice

The University reserves the right to make changes to this Privacy Notice at any time, without prior notice. We recommend that you review the Notice periodically. In case we make significant changes to this Privacy Notice that would give the University additional rights to use personal information that we already collected about you, we will obtain your consent either through email or by prominently posting the updates on the University’s website. 

If the University intends to use the collected personal information for a purpose other than the one it was collected for, we will provide you with information about that purpose, along with additional information to ensure that the processing is fair and transparent, before proceeding with the further processing.
